This is an important issue. This is a **very** busy list, and forwarding urban
legends, virus hoaxes, and other such email just adds to clutter
in everyone's mail box. As a list moderator, it is my responsibility to point
out when someone forwards messages that are essentially equivalent to spam. I
have posted NUMEROUS times various URLs for people to
investigate these types of messages BEFORE they forward them to the list, only
to have them obviously ignored.
The mods are working on some changes and revisions to the list, which you are
beginning to see with our footer rules. We will help you become more educated
on hoaxes and urban legends, but if you won't take the time to check them out
on your own, we may just have to put a ban on ALL forwards.
This list averages over FORTY messages a day, and has been much higher at
times. Most people only have one mail box for ALL their incoming email, so the
40 messages a day from this list plus whatever volume they receive in OTHER
mail can become quite overwhelming. By being aware of what is essentially JUNK
MAIL you can help keep the
volume of spam down, and make life much easier for EVERYONE.
So, for the sake of all 229 members of our list, before you forward something
to the list, CHECK IT OUT.
