First off, I wanted to say WELCOME to all of our new subscribers. When
the Journey Behind the Music aired just two Sundays ago, the list
moderators figured there would be some increased activity, we just had
NO idea it would be as much as we've seen. We are also delighted to
see
some long time list members come back out of lurking -- quit being
such
strangers! :)
Next, the list moderators (Lynn -- our list owner and head "mom", Mary
Ann, AMS, & me) thought that with the current influx of new
subscribers
(we've netted 68 people since Feb. 18!), it would probably be a good
idea to let everyone know the history of this list and other related
information. The list below is not all inclusive, but covers some of
what we consider the high points about our list. So, off we go.
1. You will note this post begins with ADMIN. That is what the Mod
Squad
decided to include in any posts that are related to list information
and
we feel are items that you, our subscribers, need to know and should
read. We ask that if you wish to reply to an ADMIN post that you
***CHANGE THE SUBJECT**. It cuts down on our effectiveness in getting
important information out if there are a flurry of posts with ADMIN in
the subject.
2. This list is not supported by, endorsed by, nor represents Steve
Perry or Journey in any way, shape, or form. This is strictly a
fans-only list made up of fans from around the world. We do not know
how
to contact Steve Perry nor do we know what he is doing, where he
lives,
or the general state of his personal life. If we hear of news about
Steve Perry, it usually makes it to this list fairly quickly.
3. This is about the 3rd incarnation of the "Perry List". The original
list was founded by Jasparina (webmistress of the Journey Fans Network
and Steve Perry Online) in 1997. After 2 incarnations of that list,
Jasparina closed the list in July of 1999 due to the difficulties of
moderating such an active list. At that time, Lynn took up the task of
keeping the list going and recruited several moderators to help. The
list of moderators has changed in the intervening time, but we've
managed to keep the list going strong.
4. While this list was originally set up as a haven for Steve Perry
fans
who were tired of all the Perry-bashing on the Journey Digest, it has
grown to encompass all Journey fans. From die-hard Steve Perry fans
(Journey will never be the same with out him!) to die-hard Journey
fans
(We miss Steve Perry, but Steve Augeri is awesome!). As such, opinions
will vary widely at times, but so long as they are respectful to each
other the Mod Squad will let them be.
5. When this version of the list was established, a set of rules were
also put in place in order to avoid some of the difficulties
encountered
in the previous list and seen on other lists. A complete listing of
these rules can be found at Perry List Central at
http://members.nbci.com/perry_list/plc.html and are also summarized in
your welcome letter. First and foremost however, there is no flaming
on
this list and personal threats are taken seriously. Violation of these
rules will result in a reprimand from the Mod Squad. Continued
violation
of the rules will result in moderated posts and eventual banishment
from
the list. (We are pleased to say we have only had to ban one person
since the incarnation of this list!) The rules are in place to make
this
list a fun and enjoyable place for everyone!
6. While we are generally lenient in regards to forwards to the list,
we
do have some restrictions. (1) Please remove all headers from anything
you forward -- no one wants to scroll through 300 email addresses to
find the joke, and (2) Virus warnings and Urban Legends are forbidden
unless they are verified by a source other than the email you have
just
received and want to forward. A link to this information must be
included in the forwarded post. You can find more information of
forwarding messages to the list on our Frequently Asked Questions page
at http://members.xoom.com/Perry_List/faq.html.
7. This list is *extremely* active and frequently off-topic. The
current
rate of approximately 225 posts a day is not unusual, though we have
had
periods of slower activity (50-60 posts per day), this list
consistently
has over 1000 posts a month and has generated upwards of 4000 posts in
a
month. We average about 110 posts per-day, so if you feel this volume
is too much to handle, we would recommend changing your subscription
to
"Digest" or "Web Only". This can be done at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StevePerry.
8. We realize that some of you are just discovering the internet and
the
