Something big is about to happen.
Not long ago, your friendly neighborhood Mod Squad started adding ADMIN tags to
certain administrative list posts in the hopes that the important information
contained therein would be read by all our family members. Despite our
continued efforts, we still have some folks who do not read ADMIN posts.
The Mod Squad has had meeting after meeting to determine how to alter ADMIN
posts so that they reach *everyone*, even those of you on the digest (where
it's harder to separate posts). We've come up with something we hope will solve
our problem.
MOD MESSAGE BREAK
Literally translated, it will be a break in the normal list procedures to send
through important ADMIN messages.
Periodically, the list will observe a type of "administrative shutdown". When
the Mod Squad has list news that we deem to be of a certain degree of
importance, we will switch the list over to "announcement only" for a short
period (usually 24-72 hours). During this time, only the Mod Squad will be able
to send posts through the list. Although we've not tested it, it is assumed
that during this time, the posts of other listmembers will simply bounce.
Don't worry, MOD MESSAGE BREAK will not occur with any kind of regularity. Only
important list news will prompt a MOD MESSAGE BREAK. You will, of course, be
given adequate notice prior to such an occurrence.
The first MOD MESSAGE BREAK is scheduled to occur in just over two weeks. The
list will go "announcement only" at 12:01AM, pacific time on Saturday, May
20th; and normal posting procedures will be restored at 12:01AM, pacific time,
on Monday, May 22nd.
The Mod Squad is very well aware of the fact that MOD MESSAGE BREAK will be
tough on some of us, and for that we apologize. Unfortunately, at this juncture
we've been unable to come up with any alternatives to ensure important info
reaches everyone on the list.
We're sure this new policy will generate not only a tremendous amount of
discussion, but also a number of complaints. Please remember to keep your
discussions (and complaints) flame free. For comments/complaints to the mods,
please direct your mail to [email protected], and not to the mods'
personal addresses.
Your friendly neighborhood Mod Squad,
Lynn Wood [List Owner]
